Mexi - Delegate Thread

Hi, I am Mexi from Monterrey, Mexico.

My Delegate Address is

https://gov.scroll.io/delegates/meximalist.eth

I’m passionate about decentralization and community-building in the Web3 space. With over 20 years leading projects and 7 years of experience in the blockchain space, I’m deeply committed to fostering collaboration and innovation. I’m on X as @meximalist.

I recently launched @BandaWeb3, a development hub for Web3 technology in Monterrey. We’ve just opened new offices and an operations center for software development projects, hosting Web3 workshops, and events both in-person and online. I host 2 X Spaces per week where I talk to interesting persons in the Web3 space, you can visit our online and IRL event schedule.

I am a core contributor in Ethereum Mexico, a community of Web3 and blockchain enthusiasts in Mexico, dedicated to education, innovation, and the growth of the Ethereum ecosystem. The core team recently organized a 650+ person event in September 2024 in Merida, Yucatan where I was half of the 2 person team leading sponsors relations.

I am the founder of mxweb3 - crypto hub, a NGO in Monterrey, Mexico that empowers Monterrey’s and LATAM’s Web3 community through education and innovation since 2022. We organize weekly meetups and larger events for Web3 enthusiasts. You can find mxweb3, on X and Instagram. Donate to mxweb3 in Giveth.

I used to co-host Proof of Value, a Web3 podcast in Spanish where we talked to people developing projects in Web3. You can find it on YouTube and Spotify. As a part of mxweb3, Ethereum Mexico and BandaWeb3 I’ve organized and attended numerous events, meetups, and hackathons to drive Web3 adoption in Latin America.

Message to the Scroll Community and Ecosystem:

I believe Scroll’s mission aligns perfectly with my vision of creating inclusive, decentralized ecosystems. As a delegate, I’m eager to contribute by engaging the community, supporting education, and helping guide governance decisions that ensure Scroll’s long-term success. Let’s work together to empower users and build a robust, sustainable ecosystem.

Top Issues

  • Builders: Empower developers with secure, low-cost platforms to innovate freely, fostering a decentralized, inclusive future.
  • Community: Build an inclusive community where diverse contributions drive innovation and reflect our values of decentralization.
Experimentation: Champion bold, cross-chain experimentation to unlock the full potential of blockchain innovation.
  • Security: Prioritize robust security to uphold trust and enable safe, decentralized innovation in blockchain ecosystems.
  • Privacy: Advocate for enhanced privacy features to protect user data while ensuring system scalability and accessibility.

Conflict of interest

I work with many different systems, DAOs and communities globally. Should any conflict of interest arise, I will inform everyone in this thread.

I plan to use this thread to share my thoughts behind my votes and to get feedback from everyone here. Thanks for delegating to me, and feel free to ask questions.

Thoughts on Voting for @danielo’s Proposal:

I’ve been considering Daniel’s proposal for “Research to inform a builder support strategy” deeply, and I’m leaning towards voting in favor. Here’s why:

  • Comprehensive Approach: The proposal not only aims to understand why builders choose certain ecosystems but also identifies current support gaps, which is crucial for Scroll to attract and retain talent.

  • Ecosystem Learning: It opens the door for us to learn from other ecosystems’ successes and failures, allowing Scroll to craft a more effective strategy.

  • Community Engagement: The inclusion of workshops and community input in the process ensures that the strategy will reflect our collective vision. This co-creation aspect is vital for Scroll’s decentralized ethos.

  • Future-Oriented: This initiative sets a precedent for ongoing research, which is essential for Scroll’s long-term growth and adaptation in the fast-evolving Web3 space.

Ecosystems to Explore:

For this research, I recommend focusing on:

  • Solana: I’ve been part of the Solana community since before the NFT boom, and their approach to low-cost, high-speed transactions is something Scroll could learn from. Their community culture and developer support are also noteworthy.

  • Base: Their success in attracting developers and DAOs to migrate is impressive. Understanding their strategies could provide us with insights into how to make Scroll an attractive home for builders.

  • Arbitrum: Their business model with Layer 3 and how they distribute grants could inform our support mechanisms. Their governance model is also something to consider for enhancing our own.

  • Starknet: Their focus on simplifying the user experience for new entrants into the blockchain space is a lesson in accessibility. We could benefit from making Scroll more user-friendly from the get-go.

While all these ecosystems have unique strengths, learning from them could sharpen Scroll’s competitive edge, especially in developer support, user onboarding, and ecosystem growth.

Conclusion:

I believe this proposal could significantly benefit Scroll by providing data-driven insights into how we can best support our builders. By understanding the dynamics of these ecosystems, we can tailor our strategies to not just compete but lead in the L2 space. I encourage everyone to review this proposal in detail and join the discussion. Let’s use this as a stepping stone to make Scroll the most builder-friendly and community-centric ecosystem.

Feel free to ask questions or share your thoughts on this matter. I’m eager to hear the community’s perspective!

As an advocate for decentralization and community-driven innovation in Web3, I wholeheartedly endorse the Scroll DAO Constitution and will vote in favor of its adoption. My journey—from founding mxweb3 to launching BandaWeb3 and participating in Ethereum Mexico —has been rooted in fostering inclusive ecosystems where builders thrive, security is prioritized, and experimentation flourishes. The Constitution’s principles of progressive decentralization, global participation, and accountability resonate deeply with my work empowering Latin America’s Web3 community through education, events, and collaborative frameworks.

Scroll’s commitment to balancing bold experimentation with rigorous security aligns perfectly with my focus on creating scalable, privacy-first infrastructure for developers. As a delegate, I will champion initiatives that empower builders, strengthen community governance, and safeguard user privacy, ensuring Scroll remains a leader in the zkEVM space. Let’s collaborate to turn this vision into reality—together, we can build a resilient, open ecosystem where innovation knows no borders. ¡Adelante!

Delegate Accelerator Proposal: A Necessary Investment

My position is a strong endorsement of the Delegate Accelerator Proposal. While acknowledging some valid concerns, the potential benefits significantly outweigh the drawbacks, making it a worthwhile investment for the future of our DAO. My argument rests primarily on several key points, each weighted according to its significance in my overall assessment.

The most crucial aspect, in my view, is the proposal’s potential to cultivate a larger and more diverse delegate base. This is a critical step towards improving the overall health and resilience of our DAO’s governance . A more representative group of delegates will lead to more informed and balanced decision-making, reducing the risk of bias and improving the overall quality of governance. Furthermore, a larger pool of delegates enhances the security of our DAO by distributing responsibility and reducing the potential impact of malicious actors.

Another significant factor supporting my endorsement is the anticipated improvement in delegate competency. The proposal directly addresses the need for better-trained and more knowledgeable delegates, leading to more effective governance. This increased competency will translate into better-informed decisions, more efficient processes, and a stronger overall DAO.

While I acknowledge the concerns regarding the proposal’s cost , I believe that the long-term benefits of a robust and competent delegate base far outweigh the initial financial investment. The potential risks associated with inadequate governance and security are far greater than the cost of this proposal. The potential for improved efficiency and reduced risks in the long run justifies the upfront expense.

In conclusion, my strong support for the Delegate Accelerator Proposal stems from my belief in its potential to significantly enhance our DAO’s governance and security. While the cost is a factor, the long-term benefits of a larger, more diverse, and more competent delegate base are, in my estimation, invaluable. The potential for improved decision-making, enhanced security, and increased efficiency makes this a necessary investment in the future of our DAO.
