Cypherpunk-oriented delegate. Hello there, I’m academic with a research specialism in Ethereum governance and the Ethereum protocol. I have written a book on Ethereum: The Absolute Essentials of Ethereum (Routledge, 2024) and a number of academic articles on Ethereum and Bitcoin culture. I teach the first Ethereum-only module at University level in the world, called The Ethereum Ecosystem. I am also an Opinion Columnist for CoinDesk writing on Ethereum culture and values. My work is known to occasionally turn up in Vitalik’s posts, so I must be doing something right! I am an advocate of the rollup-centric Roadmap and Scroll’s place within it.
A message to the community and ecosystem:
I would like to take part in the Scroll’s governance and to put the values of decentralisation, security and performance and the multi-chain vision to work by acting as a Delegate who takes these principles seriously and has a proven record defending them. I believe that Scroll culture is an expression of traditional Cypherpunk values at the L2 layer and that this represents a unique path in the L2 ecosystem that I want to ensure has a strong chance of succeeding.
My expertise is specifically in the area of Ethereum governance as it relates to our shared cultural values and how these values demarcate the boundaries of legitimate decision-making within blockchain communities. I have written academic research specifically on how DAOs operate and understand the potential pitfalls a new DAO might encounter well. I consider myself a thoughtful and careful reader of decentralised community organisation and I will ensure that I weigh up decisions about the Scroll ecosystem in line with the core values of Ethereum and Scroll in mind.
