Thank you so much, @Juansito for your further explanation on the Governance Call # 2 held today on how the CC and the EGC will coordinate regarding the Community Support Grant pilot, and that the intent is to focus on local events and activities for locations that are not included in the Local Nodes initiative. As you stated, currently there are no current grants program where these types of lower- hanging opportunities can go for funding to support Scroll, so I see it as a good opportunity to capture mindshare and support from these smaller requests that may become a more depth initiative as a Local Node project.
One of my initial concerns were about the total amount of the fund - $100K, it seems large for a pilot, but your explanation that this could be events from $1-2K funding requests and up to $5K (on average). With that math, it works out to approx. 20 x $5K events/activities or a combination of 10 x $5K events and 25 events for funding for an average of $2K each. This feels more actual in the types of requests that the CC will more likely receive, and I support both the reasoning for the grant pilot’s purpose as well as the total amount request for it.
Therefore, I endorse and fully support this proposal to move forward to the August voting cycle.
The proposal to create a council dedicated to the management, evaluation, and support of Local Nodes and other community initiatives is essential to scale and sustain the growth of the Scroll ecosystem in an organized and transparent manner. At Ethereum Argentina, we highly value projects that prioritize active and structured community participation as the basis for governance.
We believe it is key to maintaining trust that the proposal includes clear transparency mechanisms. Therefore, we suggest that during the Council’s formation phase, monthly reports be published and a person be appointed to be responsible for the organization, to whom delegates can ask questions, for example.
We believe that this proposal can represent an important step for Scroll in the evolution towards more scalable, inclusive, and responsible governance if the Council can ensure the inclusion of diverse voices from different regions and cultures within the Scroll ecosystem.
I am in support of this proposal and establishing a Community Council to enhance Local Node functions and facilitate faster support for the community. I also appreciate the methodical reporting and hiring phases.
The following reflects the views of L2BEAT’s governance team, composed of @kaereste, @Sinkas, and @Manugotsuka, and it’s based on their combined research, fact-checking, and ideation.
We are voting FOR the proposal.
While we still remain sceptical of the efficacy of introducing a separate community council, we appreciate the amendments that were made following delegates’ feedback, including our own. With the phased approach to ramping up the council’s size depending on need, our biggest concern of creating a bloated and cost-ineffective structure was largely addressed.
We look forward to seeing the council in action and hope the impact created is worth the overhead.
It is important to have a Council to supervise and support the Local Nodes, with the aim of allocating DAO resources efficiently. However, we emphasize that the cost of maintaining the Local Nodes program is even higher, with the need to spend ~$700K from the treasury to ensure the quality of the service provided by Local Nodes contributors.
Either way, I think it’s fair and a smart move since the goal is not just to have the Local Nodes, but also to ensure the efficiency of each one.
Thanks to everyone who helped shape Community Council proposal and to all delegates who voted in favor of this new chapter in community growth in Scroll.
We are now ready to open applications and initiate the interview process. Please apply before August 17th, we also want to encourage shared-seat applications.
Please make sure to share this with anyone you might find fit for the role. Happy to answer any questions.
We voted abstained in the proposal, the Community Council formation proposal to avoid a conflict of interest, as we are directly involved in leading the Brazil Local Node.
I want to inform that we have been working on the application process for the first seat for the Community Council. We have received an outstanding ~70 applications for this role. We have gone through all applications and are working through the interview process as quickly as we can, but are not done yet. For this reason, we will be extending the final decision date until tomorrow, Friday August, 22.
We will be sending replies to all candidates who have not passed to an interview stage later today.
This has definitely not been an easy task, but we are very happy with the interest and quantity of high quality individuals applying for this role.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reach out via DMs. Thanks to everyone.
